A Mile in Her Shoes: Bahamian Edition

Our honeymoon was in December and January. We spent New Year’s Eve in the Bahamas at Sandals Emerald Bay. I made sure in my packing frenzy to bring several of Chelsea’s things, so her spirit could share it with me.

Let me start by saying, Sandals KNOWS how to make guests happy. We had the best time and are certainly planning a future Sandals vacation, probably St Lucia since there are 3 resorts so close to each other. Walking into the resort looked exactly like the beautiful brochures I had seen. Not only does it look exactly as advertised, it smells like heaven. There is abundant night blooming jasmine around the immaculately kept grounds (kept by an exceptionally hard working and friendly crew). We booked through The Sand Lady and I  highly recommend you allowing her to help you plan your Sandals vacation too!

Mostly, I’m just going to share pictures here, because there isn’t much that needs to be said. We chose a butler suite and I’d recommend you do the same. The butlers made our honeymoon beyond effortless. They went above and beyond to take care of us, anticipating needs such as drinks and food without us having to say a word. If you go to Sandals, the butlers’ tips are the only thing not included. Please be generous with those guys. They are worth it!

The joy of Sandals is that it can be as rowdy or as peaceful as you want it to be. I needed the peace and spent much of the time reading.

It was so great to sit on the balcony each day and drink coffee or a cocktail and read. There were no bugs to speak of in winter except the evil sand fleas. They kept us off the beach and mostly around the pool and resort grounds. When we did venture on the beach, we made sure to apply plenty of bug spray and our bites were negligible.

We also had the great joy of bringing in 2015 there. Sandals threw a huge junkanoo and masked ball for us.

We had a great time dancing the night away, though I accepted a dance from a stranger and dude tried to move his hands into forbidden territory after not letting me go for about 3 songs. Weirdo. It’s totally cool to ask a woman to dance but you get 1 song and keep your hands in the proper places!

We had the joy of meeting up with the head groundskeeper for a garden tour one morning. I think it was among the most fun things we did there, as we learned so much and it was just beautiful to see the work they put into making it a pleasant atmosphere.

I also took Chelsea’s shoes into the beautiful Caribbean Sea for my first ever time kayaking.

It only rained one night when we were there but it was when the butler was catering dinner in our room. I felt bad for him but he never complained.

We went crazy with ordering for the dinner in our room because we could order from any restaurant on the property and mix and match as we liked. There were several places we really liked to eat, so we chose a little from each.

Then it was time to leave but Chelsea’s shoes and dress and we all had a great time. I hope our trip to St Lucia will be as amazing and relaxing.
