This is just a quick post about the last week or so and the fact that, as of today, I can say, “We are moving next month!” It is coming crazy fast! So, in the last week or so, I had the opportunity to meet with an old friend from the Air Force and she gave me something remarkable: a flag flown on a combat mission in Afghanistan in honor of my sister.
I was so touched to receive it and once we finish our move, I will mount it in the flag case I have for my sister. My mother has the official burial flag from the VA and an identical case at her home. It was also so great to get to catch up with someone I served with and hadn’t seen in about 10 years.
Saturday and Sunday we stayed home and packed like crazy people. Plus, I made us some quinoa almond chocolate granola bars for our long car trip. They are now vaccuum sealed and sitting next to our 2 kg bag of dried mango slices from Essential Living Foods. I got a great deal on our last order- spent only $23 for a $98 order! An amazing windfall. I also made a huge pot of tortilla soup to eat for the week. Yummy soup!
Monday brought the arrival of one of my favorite people, PFD! PFD and I go back about 5 years or so and I hadn’t seen him in a couple years. He arrived from Florida and thus began a very long Monday. I met him for drinks after work and had a great opportunity to express in person how grateful I am for his friendship. He is one of the people who constantly supported me through my dark time a few years ago and it felt good to tell him that, as far as I was concerned, he is a hero. Heros don’t always do big, great, loud deeds. Instead, they exist in the quiet moments when they stand strong in the midst of another’s storm. Those are special people. It was also great that Racer K got to meet him before we head to Denver. I think I said about 5 times that night, through the haze of bourbon, that I expect him and our other friends to come visit.
Other than that, I’ve been busily planning my first anniversary gift for Racer K. The traditional gift is paper and the modern gift is clocks. That’s about all I will say about it, except that I perhaps make these gifts too complicated but they are so worth it to make my sweet husband smile and to show him how much I love him. I can’t believe it’s almost been a year! And I can’t believe we move NEXT MONTH!
P.S. I’m considering begining NaPoWriMo again. Last year I barely made it 2 weeks before calling it quits and I’m already struggling to kick those creative brain cells into gear, but it’s worth the effort.
