NaNoWriMo

Years ago, I used NaPoWriMo to write some poetry and while I kept up with it for a couple weeks, it fell to the wayside. I like my poetry to find me, rather than trying to force it or force a topic. However, I’ve been working on a novel since May and it’s really been taking shape organically, but I need some inspiration and some assistance with story structure to make it shine.

Thankfully, I have had lots of inspiration over the months to help me create worthy villains and I’ve delved deep into my history as a philosopher to approach a number of ethical issues within the story. I’ve been re-reading Kant, Freud, Singer, and Marx to provide real issues for the characters to tackle, because my story will not be one with loads of fight scenes or large physical battles. Most real people don’t live lives full of such physical violence and despite the sci-fi/ fantasy aspects of the story, I wanted something slightly more based in reality.

I don’t anticipate finishing the novel this month. I’m simply using the resources of NaNoWriMo as motivation and help in ensuring the story structure flows well. If you are also a writer in the midst of a novel or have an idea and want to get started, find me on NaNoWriMo: Tennhoneybee.
