Indigo Girls at University of Colorado- Boulder

My love of the Indigo Girls goes back to the first notes I heard of, “Least Complicated,” back in 1994. I’ve seen them countless times in venues large and small, so when I got an email that they’d be recording a live album with the University of Colorado- Boulder symphony, I knew I had to be present. One of my most prevalent recurring dreams is being friends with and singing with the Indigo Girls, and this seemed like the most likely way to make this dream come true. Though if they read this and want to indulge my wish to share a stage with them, I’d be most happy.

I snagged an amazing seat, as you can see from the picture, but that night in April 2017, something even more amazing happened to me. Yes, I loved being with other Indigo Girls fans in this beautiful venue and singing along as the show went on and then they, and by they I mean Emily, began to sing my favorite song from the latest album, One Lost Day: “Come A Long Way.” The third stanza of the first verse begins, “And I went under…” whereas the second stanza of the second verse begins, “The scourge of hope…” So, as Emily was singing the first verse, she jumped from the end of the second stanza into, “The scourge of hope,” and stopped the song as she realized her error. Then both she and Amy were standing on the stage, asking each other what the correct phrase was. So I called out, “And I went under!”

Every face turned to look at me and Amy and Emily laughed, nodded, and restarted the song for the recording. A few people around me laughingly said, “At least someone knows the lyrics.” In my wildest dreams this would make the album cut but I know it is unlikely. However, I was able to directly interact with my favorite band during their show and it was for one of my favorite songs. Needless to say, epic levels of happiness overcame me and have remained over the months.
