Dreaming of Autumn

It’s now August. In Colorado, this marks the near end of summer. In Florida or Tennessee, we’d still have 2 months of humid, sweltering heat to deal with but here in Denver, there are only a few weeks left of high temps before we start looking forward to the first snow of the year.

I’m really excited about this.

Just watching a movie where I see the fog of someone’s breath in the cold of a Halloween scene is making me crave pumpkin muffins, hot chocolate, and warm clothes. I want to go out to a farm and pick my own pumpkins and pick bushels of apples and then spend days making apple sauce and apple butter and perhaps a caramel laden apple cake. I can’t wait to feel the sun and a cool breeze at the same time. I’m looking forward to our fully packed October- a wedding, races, the zombie crawl, and Halloween and all its fun activities. Last night, we realized we need to find a local haunted house to visit. Plus, I can’t wait for Elitch Gardens’ Fright Night. I’m also looking forward to watching the aspens change color. Leaf peeping wasn’t really a thing in Nashville, the trees went from green to dead pretty fast.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not living for the future. I’m enjoying the present as much as I can by staying busy and venturing out. Last night we walked over to Highland Tap and Burger. I wanted a burger and a cocktail and it was a decent 3.4 mile round trip to walk. However, the sun was beating down as we walked there but on our way home, as the sun set, a cool breeze blew and it was just lovely. No mosquitoes and no humidity are definitely benefits of a Denver summer. I sure do miss the fireflies though.

However, nothing beats autumn. Nothing beats the extra gorgeous sunsets and cool breezes and wearing hoodies and boots. Nothing beats being able to keep the windows open to allow a fresh breeze to blow through the house. I may not love the shortening of the days but we get so much sunshine here in Denver, I think it won’t be as big a problem as it was in Nashville. I’m looking forward to holidays and festivals and simply enjoying our first year in our new city. Plus, autumn brings me closer to ice skating!

*None of these are my pictures, if this isn’t obvious. Just some googling handiwork but they are of/from Denver.
