Do Great Things

I’m way behind on writing. Life has been hectic and I’m still nursing this grieving heart of mine, so sometimes, that elusive muse of inspiration… well… eludes me. However, while I’ve been living in the day to day mundane, punctuated with preparation for our big move, one of my dearest friends did something incredible.

You’ll have to forgive me for bragging a bit about this person but while my life has been going on fairly simply (and I like it that way), he’s been doing something rather extraordinary and I feel a sense of pride to be his friend.

I call Naresh Kumar my brother. We’ve been friends for several years and it greatly saddened me when he had to leave Nashville and even more so when he couldn’t make it for my wedding from California. The US did something it does every day and stupidly refused a further work visa for this incredible human being. So, Naresh did something he’s been talking about for a few years: he moved to New Zealand. To start his new life in his new country, which has already made him a citizen, he walked and ran the Te Araroa trail. He documented this trek through Facebook and Instagram, sharing the tales of the kindness of the New Zealand people and the beauty of his new home country. This is truly a remarkable feat and the local news in New Zealand there covered it.

You can follow Naresh’s adventures on Instagram at IAmARunr.
