Daily Lines, day 4

There are a lot of misogynistic micro-aggressions and slut-shaming going around Facebook. Especially surrounding Hillary Clinton. You don’t have to like the woman or her politics but, since when did a woman become culpable for the indiscretions of her husband 20 years ago? What do her clothes have to do with her campaign? And why is Monica Lewinsky still being slut-shamed for her sexual adventures over 20 years ago? I mean, really?!?!

Also, I’ve noticed people passing around memes about “In a world of Kardashians, be a (fill in the blank other woman).” How about, “In a world where women are judged negatively for acting similar to men in any way, be whoever the fuck you want!”? When I saw a friend post today: “The girls who say “a lot of guys are after me” should keep in mind that low prices always attract many customers.” Seriously? How about celebrating women for embracing their sexuality and attractiveness instead of demeaning their value? You know what else attracts people: wit, intelligence, moral integrity, ambition, and education. I personally have “a lot of guys after me,” if that’s what you want to call people who admire, respect, and even desire me. That doesn’t mean I’m spreading my legs to all of them and even if I was, that’s my business and no one would judge a man for the same (this is all hypothetical, as if I was single).

Regardless, people need to think before they post. They need to consider how their words will affect the women in their lives or how their daughters would feel reading or hearing the same. It is not acceptable to tie a woman’s worth or value to her sexuality or her weight or how she dresses.
