About Me

I feel like sometimes people just don’t know me. I’m an open book but there are some things about me people seem shocked by. So, here’s a lil bit, if you care to learn:

I don’t go to the movies. I drink loads of water and coffee and I don’t love being in groups of people (see number 2 for why). So I’d rather see a movie at home. Live music and live theater are different experiences.
I have about zero immune system. Don’t know why, I don’t have any underlying conditions for why, but one person coughing or sneezing in public usually means I will be sick for weeks.
I love music. Like, love love. I have extensive knowledge of the subject, especially jazz, and I will sit and converse about it or sing for hours.
I love to sing. I’m so happy about being able to sing with the Denver Women’s Chorus and to have the chance to sing at Carnegie Hall this year.
I love food. There are only a few things I don’t like, such as raisins and collard greens, but otherwise, I’m game for most anything that smells good.
Gifts are my love language fo’ sure! Giving and receiving. I put lots of thought into what I give to others and I melt over really thoughtful gifts.
I’m not one for “roughing it.” I’m not into camping (maybe glamping with the right people) or not having access to proper bathrooms or any of that junk. Yes, I’ll do a day hike or something outdoorsy but only if I’m properly prepared. My idea of roughing it is a hotel without room service.
In conjunction with the above, I don’t like hunting or fishing. Just, no.
I love to get dressed up. I’m totally down for things that require formal dress.
While I adore chances to wear heels, I generally eschew shoes. I’d much rather be barefoot.
I can dance all night long. Even after my feet start bleeding from the aforementioned heels. True story.
I prefer night over day but I love sunshine. I’m prone to SAD, so I need my daily ☀️ but I’d rather sleep all day and party all night. I am not an early riser.
I’m a prolific writer. I’m currently in the midst of writing two stories (I’m terrible about actually finishing stories of any length) and I’m working on a year long poetry project. That is going very well.
I love chances to costume. It’s part of my heritage. New Orleans is well known for its crazy costumes and growing up amidst that insanity definitely rubbed off on me.
The one great true love of my life is New Orleans. I may love and have loved a number of people in my life but nothing compares in the least to what I feel for my city. She is my passion, my heartbeat, and my guiding star.

I guess that’s enough soul baring for now. Feel free to share in return. What’s something about you that people seem surprised by?
