A Mile in Her Shoes: Oktoberfest Edition

As Racer K and the Bee work to maximize their experiences in Nashville before heading to the Mile High City, we decided to make a day of Oktoberfest. Every year in Germantown, there’s a 5K followed by a day of music, vendors, and plenty of food and beer. Unfortunately, when we woke up that morning, it was rainy and gray. That didn’t stop us though. I dressed for the chilly weather and we carried my large umbrella. Thankfully, it was just a misty drizzle and eventually, it stopped.

Our first stop at the festival was the beer stand, of course. We walked around under my red and black umbrella, attempting not to beam unsuspecting strangers in the head with the edges of the canopy. Whilst strolling, we came upon a brand new apartment building that bears a resemblance to the apartment complex we will be living in in Denver, so we investigated what little bit we could, just ruminating about what it will be like to live downtown. Then we noticed a cigar vendor and couldn’t resist buying a stogie to share. Then we entered a couple vendors where I was looking at some of the handmade jewelry. I was told twice by some kind strangers that my outfit was awesome and it certainly made my day! Though my dear husband had already told me that morning, there’s something very good about strangers taking time to compliment you!

While we were walking around, we found a great new collar for little River: black with gold fleur de lis. Goes well with Julian’s LSU collar. They also recently got new tags with our information and stating: Denver CO. We are so ready for this move! Six months seems too long to wait though our interim vacation there will be excellent to tide us over.

With our cigar from Principle Cigars, a new local company, we started on our second round of beers and went in search of other fun stuff. We ended up purchasing some great beef jerky- Cajun and only moderately spicy. Racer K tried the ghost pepper kind too but my belly has recently taken offense to spicy foods, no matter how much the rest of me loves them. Boo for me. Then we saw this awesome Saint Bernard dog with an actual keg around his neck! How cute he was! I had to stop and take a picture (I asked permission of the owner before snapping the shot).

With our fun shopping and our beer finished, we decided to take advantage of being downtown for the day and headed over to the parking garage for my work. We walked from there down to the Hatch Print showroom. If you aren’t familiar with this mainstay of Nashville, Hatch prints are integral to Nashville art. The Ryman uses Hatch for printing its concert posters, of which I have none. We decided we would get a quintessential Nashville print from Hatch to hang forever in our home as a reminder of where we met and our life together began. We found a beautiful print of the Nashville skyline and we will frame and hang it once we buy our house out in Denver. If I could find a Hatch print of Denver, I’d certainly get that too but I’m sure we will find appropriate Denver art once we are there.

One thought we’ve entertained is that our little apartment downtown will be sparse in wall hangings. Since we want to buy a house so soon after moving, it doesn’t seem to make sense to hang everything for only a year and then spend the extra time and effort to repair all the holes in the apartment. So, there will only be a few choice items hung when we live downtown and the rest will remain wrapped and stored for our move into what will hopefully be our final homestead.

After our adventures downtown, we headed to our neighborhood pub and decided to go crazy by ordering bushwackers. If you haven’t had one, they are a Pensacola creation that is basically a high alcohol milkshake. Yum! Then from there, we went to a nice dinner at Lockeland Table. At this point, our many miles in my sister’s boots led to very sore feet. Those boots were not made for walking. 😉 Also, at that point my head was super fuzzy from our day of imbibing. The next day was made for recovery.

I loved how many compliments I got that day and I attributed it greatly to the boots. Not only are they super cute, they kept my feet nice and warm. Keeping my sister alive in all the little ways I can… I miss her so much.
