The Proposal

Some things only happen once in a lifetime. Your dear Love getting on one knee and asking you to be his wife is one of those… so here’s the story from last Friday.

K and I’s first date (both of them) was at Patterson House. It is a very special place for us. Well, he had planned our monthly date night without telling me where we were going, only telling me that we weren’t eating dinner until 9pm. So, we had a small meal before leaving the house and then he drove us to Patterson House. Though I hadn’t known where we were going for the night, it was easy enough to discern once we started driving. We were having pre-dinner drinks and snacks there.

We enjoyed several cocktail creations and the prosciutto fig flatbread and the goat cheese balls. All good and I was admittedly tipsy by the time we left. Next we drove over to Germantown. He had gotten us reservations at Rolf and Daughters, a restaurant we had been wanting to try for some time. We had a phenomenal beef tartare to start and then we both ordered the lamb meatballs with broccoli. The funny thing is, we share such similar tastes we often order the same cocktail or same meal wherever we go, though sometimes we will order different things and split them both. It works out very well for us.

After dinner, we headed home. I had no idea what was about to happen. I had known the proposal was coming but didn’t know when it was going to happen or how and K had spent the night in misdirection and obfuscation, speaking about how the ring was slow in coming because of the holidays. So, by the time we got home, I was ready to kick off my heels (pretty as they are, they aren’t super comfy) and I went to the restroom. I came out and headed to our bedroom to set things down, opened the door, and it was amazing!

There were rose petals everywhere and flameless candles lit the room (hey, safety first!) plus beautiful new glasses and a bottle of bourbon. I turned around and he got on one knee, said some beautiful things (private between us), and asked me to marry him. Of course I said, “YES!” We laughed and kissed and hugged and then I quickly wanted to FaceTime with my mom and sister because I was worried they’d be going to bed soon and I was so excited to share it with them.

So, now we are in full wedding planning mode and most of it has already fallen into place. Next year will be pretty spectacular as I change my name!
