It’s Not The Journey…

It’s been a while since I’ve written because the last 2 months have been a whirlwind of activity plus I’ve been seriously under the weather. I’m pretty worn out but starting to acclimate to all the newness that life has. Sadly, I’m also in the midst of a pretty heavy bout of depression. However…

The Tennessee Honeybee and Racer K have moved to Colorado!

Yep, after planning it for a few years, I’m finally living in Denver. Woo-hoo! I spent months packing the house and planning the trip down to the last details, so it was all pretty stress-free, except for the actual moving and leaving all our friends who are as close as family.

You may not know this about me but I’m not a fan of long car trips. After spending my first year in Nashville driving back and forth to Florida almost every month for a relationship that didn’t survive the distance, I simply lost my taste for road trips of that sort. So looking at a 2 day trip from Nashville to Denver did not overly excite me. However, K and I made it as much fun as it could be.

On Saturday, we watched the movers pack all our stuff up and K’s car was loading onto a trailer to make the trip with them. We were driving Suby out and she was packed to the hilt. Literally, we almost didn’t have room for everything that we took in the car but it worked out and I’m glad we packed it all in there for immediate use in Denver- things like the air mattress and plenty of yummy snack foods.

Sunday morning came early: we were up at 4am to get on the road by 5am. We were only a few minutes behind once we got the kitties loaded into the car and packed everything around and on top of their crates. They were sedated for the trip to make it easier on them (and us). I’ve listened to Julian meow for 9 hours straight before… I couldn’t handle that for 2 full days.

Bye bye, home! 7 years of living in this sweet house.

I started us off driving and since I was feeling up for it, I kept driving for about 7 or so hours. K took over for the last couple hours and we pulled into Independence, MO to stay overnight. Our hotel, a Drury Inn, was excellent! Good price, they allowed the cats, and they were very nice to us. Plus, there were some restaurants only a half mile away and we walked over to the Carraba’s for dinner and drinks. That was also pretty excellent, as the bartender was very generous with us- I ended up with a free half margarita- and we ate as much as we could before retiring for the night. Since I had driven all day, there aren’t really any pictures to show but in that first day we crossed the Tennessee, Ohio, Missouri, and Mississippi Rivers. The Mississippi remains my favorite! Also, after K took over driving that first day, we hit a HUGE thunderstorm cell before getting to our overnight destination. It was pretty harrowing but it was sunny again once we got to the hotel.

Monday morning again came super early- another 4am. We packed the car back up, much against the wishes of the cats. Julian had an accident in his crate the first day, thankfully very close to when we were done driving for the day, so he seemed agitated by having to go back in the crate (even though I had cleaned it up as best I could and the puppy pads I had lined it with had done their work in absorbing most of it anyway). River hadn’t eaten since we left Nashville and seemed unwilling to drink water, even as I tried my hardest to convince her. I went so far as to dip my finger in water and put drops on her nose, forcing her to lick it off. Her seizure disorder was definitely having an effect and she was very shaky. By the morning, she seemed moderately better and I knew the best I could do was to get her to Denver and settled. So, in they went.

Kevin drove most of the day so I have some fun pictures along the way. I had recently bought these ruby red slippers and they seemed perfect to keep my feet warm as we drove through Kansas.

I also had to get some cool bee socks when I saw them.

The sunrise was beautiful as we left Kansas City and headed west.

Then we got into the land of windmills! I’d never seen one and they were visible as far as the eye could see, which was pretty far in the vast, flat prairie land of Kansas.

Shortly after entering Colorado, I took over driving again.

Suddenly (well, a couple hours later), we were at our new home!

I went in to talk to management and get the paperwork out of the way. Unfortunately I do not acclimate well to altitude and I was feeling very floaty and out of breath. I was also pretty hungry. We unloaded the car and then we had to go to the store to get essentials. We had quite the list! It had snowed the day before so I was tickled to find snow on the ground outside the mall.

After we unloaded the car of our new items, it was time for dinner. We went around the corner to a little pizza place. It was extremely good pizza but also priced to be more of a night out than our weekly pizza place. Then we went home to relax and hang with the kitties. River was more than a little shaky but thankfully, no other potty accidents happened through the trip and both cats were eager to eat and drink once we had them in the apartment.

So, that was the journey… but we all know it’s all about the destination. New post soon: “The Rainbow Room”
