For years I sprayed my sheets and clothes with a commercial lavender scented spray. It was soft, feminine, and relaxing but it was also made with ingredients I can’t pronounce. However, there’s a part of me at times that feels more frugal than environmentally ethical. It’s hard to toss something away that I spent good money on, even if it was years ago, when it hasn’t been used up all the way. The good thing is, the move from Nashville to Denver forced me to face that part of me to a degree. It became a matter of throwing good money after bad, since we had to pay for the weight of our items. So, out went that old, partially used commercial bottle of linen spray.
I bought a new, amber glass spray bottle to mix up a new batch of linen spray and I’ve been experimenting with my essential oils, instead of automatically making everything lavender. Lavender is still my most used oil, but I’m blending it now to see what I can create. For this spray, I knew I wanted something calming… something peaceful and soft to help us sleep. I’d recently acquired vetiver and couldn’t wait to put it into action! It has such a smoky, earthy, grassy scent to it that it reminds me of peaceful spring fields. So, here’s what I came up with:
Sleepy Bee Linen Spray
- 1 1/2 cups distilled water
- 2 oz witch hazel
- 25 drops lavender
- 15 drops Roman chamomile
- 7 drops vetiver
Add all to a glass amber bottle. Shake. Spray.
