I’ve tried for over a week to finish the second post I’d wanted to write after Hurricane Ida but I’ve found, I can’t say exactly what I want to say. There’s a level of vulnerability I’m not willing to tap into right now because there is just too much going on. My roof still isn’t tarped, I’m worried about which insurance deductible I’ll have to pay, and there’s plenty of personal stuff whirling in the background too. So, I decided I’m just going to give what I can.
As I was driving home and witnessing the damage from the strength of the storm, I was listening to Whitney Cummings’ podcast, Good For You. Her guest, Jessiemae Peluso, said that Whitney had once told her, “If your heart is going to be broken, make sure it breaks open.“ That hit me powerfully and I later thought, ‘I feel like someone yanked a (safe and small) rug out from under me and when I fell, my heart cracked open like a geode.’ As I’ve said before, I’m in a period of growth so I’m just sitting with these ideas.
That’s all I’ve got. I can’t analyze this openly. At least not here. I’m sitting in my bathtub, listening to a podcast (Deep Dive with June Diane Raphael and Jessica St Clair), and trying to process my own thoughts and feelings. It’s been a crazy few weeks. So, that’s what I have to offer: the quote itself. Maybe it will resonate with you too.
